A CALORIE EATEN IS NOT A CALORIE EATEN !

‘Calories’ must be the most commonly used word by people who are trying to lose weight or make lifestyle changes! And why shouldn’t it be? Counting calories makes the whole dieting business a tad easier. It is simple math isn’t it ? Eat that last piece of left over cake > Check your calorie counting app for the calories in that piece of cake > Decide to walk extra next morning. Account settled !

Does nutrition information confuse you? Find calm in the chaos

PMS

When it comes down to nutrition and fitness, everyone from experts, researchers, your grandmother, and the aunty next door to your maid; literally every single one seems to have the best approach to the key for healthy living. What, when and how much to eat is a topic that leads to many interesting debates and innovative ideas. And sometimes just ridiculous tips that we foodies get fed-up of.

There is an enormous pool of information about health, nutrition and fitness out there. Every blog and nutritional expert advice seems to shatter down age- old notions of staying fit and healthy. Even as an expert, I am baffled with the continuous evolving of nutrition science (for both, good and bad reasons). It can be strenuous to sift between health mantras that proclaim “Ditch the carbs!” ”Eat the good fats and stay away from saturated fats” “Drink that honey & lemon water to get rid of belly fat” “Eat less, move more” blah, blah blah… Phew! And between all that is said and all that is done, we end up demotivating ourselves and the dream of staying healthy goes right out of the window

LET’S FIX YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD !

FB - Cover V day

Weekend is round the corner and with our hectic work-life balance, it’s imperative to have a planned weekend to unwind, relax and rejuvenate. With weekend, comes the unending kitchen trips, high calorie food and drinks which we fear, but still cannot live without. We make brunch outings; dinner plans, but still dread the calories. We wonder how long will you live like this running away from food and yet find solace with the same high calorie food. All these skepticism has made our relationship with food very complex. We no longer eat anything without weighing the pros and cons of it. And if we ever indulge ourselves in gourmet food, our mind takes us on a guilt trip. Isn’t it funny? We have started dreading food and instead of focusing on the taste and relishing it, our mind focuses on the nutritional value and the calorie intake! All this makes ‘eating’ a complex task. DON’T COUNT CALORIES…CALORIES DON’T COUNT!

Too many people just eat to consume calories. Try dining for a change. #JohnWalters

Too many people just eat to consume calories. Try dining for a change.

The numbers will always add up to be the same, but there are unlimited ways to fill those numbers. So, instead of the above breakfast you could have a glass of juice, a doughnut and a muffin OR a large bowl of yogurt and mix cut fruits with honey. All these add up to a 500 calorie breakfast.

Let’s say you are advised a 2000 calorie diet per day. And all you need to do in order to stay fit is eat within that limit.
